Description | Amazon, Cisco, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Mozilla and Netflix recently created the Alliance for Open Media which is defined as a project that aims to define and develop codecs and media formats to meet the market demand for a open standard video compression and distribution over the Internet. These seven partners will pool their technologies and graciously and know-how to create these new technical standards for video, sound, image and streaming. The alliance endorsed the W3C rules on intellectual property and project from each of its work will be published under the Apache 2.0 license. The initial project aims to develop an open video codec-free usage rights that meets several criteria: open and interoperable; optimized for the web; adaptable to any terminal and any bandwidth; suitable for both commercial and private content. This new video codec should appear end of 2016 or early 2017. (Eureka Press) |
